Seasickness & The Shanti Bar

With the New England Boat Show that featured a few Clipper presentations behind us, I wanted to pass on something I learned about motion sickness at one of the many presentations.

A team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) shared the latest research on motion sickness, which included a rundown of the most popular drugs as well as their side effects. The much more important part of their presentation however was the following: In an effort to prevent or at least reduce motion sickness, it is better to have something in the stomach compared to having an empty stomach. They also found that the best kind of food to try to eat is protein. That research has led to the creation of The Shanti Bar, which is a protein bar with additional ingredients such as ginger and vitamins that have proven to reduce or eliminate motion sickness.

I spoke with Neheet Trivedi and Rupa Mukherjee about how their very positive experience with customers of the Boston Harbor Cruises may translate onto an offshore racing boat and decided to try the bar during my upcoming training in the UK.
